Free Truck Driving Schools: The Numbers Are Growing
November 30, 2008

I have been researching different options for people who want to find free, or nearly free, CDL training to become truck drivers. I have a section on the website for it so you can go there to find out which companies offer free CDL training. The link will open in a new window so you won’t lose your spot here. The list is growing continuously and I’m getting the impression that I’ve barely scratched the surface in this arena. Surviving Your First Year On The Road:
The Toughest Challenge You May Ever Face
November 11, 2008

Turnover in the trucking industry is higher than in almost any industry in the country. The job is difficult, the schooling is short, and the lifestyle change you must endure is often times completely overwhelming for a new driver. You have way too much to learn in too short of an amount of time, with very little margin for error, and potentially severe consequences if you make a mistake – sometimes even a tiny one. You’re away from your home, your friends, your family, and now anything you ever considered a normal part of your life seems like a distant memory in a short amount of time. But there are great rewards to be reaped from a career in the trucking industry if you can just get through that first year. But for many, that’s a far more difficult task than they had ever imagined. So what can you do to get through it? Here’s some of the most important things for a new driver to understand.

What are the hours like? What about driving through bad weather? Is the food any good at truck stops? Am I going to meet a lot of interesting people? What will I do for entertainment?
